AltSide NYC Privacy Policy

Overview

AltSide (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share your information when you use our mobile application for NYC parking management. AltSide has no user accounts and no backend server of our own — parking data ships bundled with the app, and the only third party your data reaches is our maps provider, Mapbox.

Information We Collect

Location Data

• Purpose: To find nearby parking signs, center and display the map on your current position, show and track where your vehicle is parked, and provide personalized parking recommendations
• Type: Precise and approximate GPS location (coordinates)
• On-device use: Your location is used on your device to query the bundled parking-sign database and rank nearby spots
• Transmitted to our maps provider (Mapbox): To display maps, AltSide uses the Mapbox Maps SDK. Rendering the map requires sending map-view coordinates — which are derived from and can reveal your location — to Mapbox's servers so the correct map tiles can be loaded. This means your location leaves your device and is processed by Mapbox as described in “Third-Party Services” below.
• No analytics tracking: We disable Mapbox's usage/location telemetry, so your location is sent to Mapbox only to load map tiles for the features above — not for advertising or analytics

Vehicle Information

• Purpose: To provide personalized parking management and reminders
• Type: Vehicle names, emojis, parking locations, and reminder preferences you choose to save
• Storage: Stored only on your device using secure on-device storage (expo-secure-store) and local settings storage (AsyncStorage). This information is never transmitted off your device.

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

• Find parking signs near your current location
• Load and display maps of your area and your parked vehicle
• Provide personalized parking spot recommendations
• Track your parked vehicle locations
• Send parking reminders and notifications
• Improve app functionality and user experience

Data Storage and Sharing

• Local-first: Your vehicle information, saved parking spots, and app settings are stored only on your device. We do not operate a backend and never receive or store this information.
• Maps provider: Location (as map-view coordinates) is sent to Mapbox solely to render maps. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share your data with any third party other than Mapbox for the map functionality described here.
• Security: Data transmitted to Mapbox is sent over encrypted HTTPS connections. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data.

Your Rights and Choices

Data Control

• Access: You can view all your stored data within the app
• Deletion: You can delete individual vehicles or all data through the app settings, and you can uninstall the app to remove all on-device data
• Location Permissions: You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings. Note that maps and location-based features will not work without location access.

Account Deletion

• No accounts: AltSide has no user accounts. All of your data lives on your device.
• Self-Service: Delete all your data directly within the app or by uninstalling.
• Immediate Effect: Data deletion takes effect immediately on your device
• No Recovery: Deleted data cannot be recovered

Third-Party Services

Maps and Location (Mapbox)

• Provider: Mapbox is used for all map display and mapping functionality.
• Data shared: To load map tiles, map-view coordinates derived from your location are sent to Mapbox. No vehicle information, names, or other personal data is shared.
• Telemetry disabled: We turn off the Mapbox SDK's usage/location telemetry, so location is used only to serve the maps you request.
• Mapbox's handling of data: Mapbox processes this data under its own privacy policy, available at https://www.mapbox.com/legal/privacy.

Analytics

• AltSide does not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and does not collect analytics data about you.

Children's Privacy

AltSide is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes through the app or by updating the effective date.
